Channeling Rambo

Nathan has developed a love for my cloth headbands...

I'm not sure where this fascination came from, but when he spots either of the two headbands I own, he immediately puts it on. He'll wear in in the back yard to play or around the house. I'm not sure where his interest came from - I only use them at night when I'm washing my face for bed, which means he never sees them on me. I guess this is the beginning of his dress-up phase??

A Car Ride with Nathan

Here's how my life goes these days:

Nathan wakes up. Nathan asks about Oreo, Princess, Dada, Gran, Nana, Granddad and Pawpaw (in no particular order). Then he decides he wants to go for a ride in the car. Neither of us have had breakfast and both of us are still in our pajamas. I have made the mistake of telling him that we'll go in the car later, and for the next hour(s), he berates me with his request for "car, car!". So now I just tell him "no".

Fast forward to us actually leaving the house with the intent of riding in the car. Nathan runs to the driveway and down the front walk, where he stands, or picks up sticks or looks at the dirt. The "car, car!" that was so imperative 5 seconds before has been forgotten in his love of the outdoors. Since by this time I have come up with a legitimate reason to go for a car ride, I have to work on convincing him he really does want to hop into the car with me (or I just grab him if I'm not up for the discussion).

Then we make two turns and are almost out of the neighborhood when Nathan begins his new chant: "out, out, out!"

Here's from after strawberry picking when Nathan chanted "out, out, out" all the way home. The first half of the video is Nathan wanting to see/hold the video camera (aka Brian's phone), but then we remind him what he really wanted...

Mmmm... Strawberries!

This past Friday, Brian was post call, so Nathan and I planned on going strawberry picking with some friends from playgroup. Imagine my surprise and happiness when I come out of my bedroom Friday morning to see Brian standing in the living room, telling me to go back to sleep! Groggily, I asked him, "So you got some sleep last night?" Amazingly, he wasn't paged one time the night before! So I stumbled back into my room for another hour of shut-eye while Brian fed and entertained Nathan.

After I got up for the second time, I told Brian of my plans for the day and he was eager to join us on our outing. The weather was cool and overcast, perfect for berry picking. We had a great time! Brian and I both picked a gallon of strawberries, while Nathan was more interested in eating!

Nathan was more likely to squish the strawberries then pick him, so Brian helped him out.

18 Months Old, Over a Week Late

Nathan has been growing, changing, pictures have been taken, and yet the blog has remained un-updated.  *Sigh*  I'm here to remedy the situation for this week...

We went for Nathan's 18 month well child appointment this past Monday and Nathan has grown some!

Length = 32in (from 30 1/2 in)
Weight = 23lb 7 oz (from 22lb 2 oz) (but Nathan kept moving around on the scale and I the current weight reading is a little high)
Head = 19in (from 18 3/4 in)

So our pediatrician said that since he has increased in all his stats (and considering that he had a virus last week that caused him to not eat for DAYS), she's still ok with his growth.  Although she does want to see us back in 3 months for another weight check to make sure Nathan's on track, rather then waiting until the usual next visit at 2 years.

We've done a few things to try and get a few extra calories in Nathan.  A few weeks ago, we stopped at Krispy Kreme and Nathan ate a whole glazed doughnut (this was after eating a good dinner).  Great for some extra calories, but not a something I regularly want him to partake in.  The this past week, we introduced ice cream at Grandmother and Granddaddy's house (he liked it ok, but was done after a few bites).  We tried again with ice cream when we had Cook Out milkshakes a few days ago.  Nathan LOVED Brian's strawberry, but then wanted to try my Oreo Mint and was appaled (and didn't want anymore strawberry after the horrific experience either).  Last week, I tried some Vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast in his milk (half strength), and he DID NOT go for that.  This week we tried some Chocolate Pediasure (Nathan's Chocolate Milk!) with only slight success.  But I think our winner is adding heavy cream to his whole milk... this kid LOVES milk and hasn't shown any notice to this sneaky addition.  So bring on the cream, and we'll show that  three month weight check what we're made of!

This is turning into a random post, so I'll leave you with some pictures I took of Nathan last week in honor of him turning 18 months.  These were taken on two separate days when Nathan was teething (you may notice some drool in a few pics), not eating and sleeping poorly, so considering the circumstances, I'm pleased with the few good shots I got!

We are obviously concerned about something!

Here, Mommy was being chastised!  I told Nathan we were going to the car, yet I had the nerve to stop and try to snap a few more pictures.  So Nathan is reminding me, "Car, CAR!"
