Blast from the Past: Hooray for Brian!

This post is all about the celebrations for Brian that we had during June!

First, Grand Dad and Nana came into town for the Anesthesia Graduating House Staff Farewell Dinner (or some similar fancy name for the good-bye dinner the department gives for the graduating anesthesia residents).  So we all got dressed up, left the kids with a babysitter, and had a great evening celebrating Brian's accomplishments over the last 4 years (or 8 or 12 or 29 years, however you want to look at it!).

 

I got a acknowledgement during the dinner, since I helped some of the female residents and other resident wives sew scrub caps for all the anesthesia attending physicians (though the credit also belongs to Nana and Gran and Aunt Karen, who all helped me finish my share!).  But Brian made a gift for the residency director that will likely never be topped by anyone.  He took a collection of light wands (a standard anesthesia piece of equipment), like this...


And used them to build the most unique anesthesia lamp ever!

I'll even let Brian explain the background story himself (and show the great reception that his creation got!).



Then the next week was Brian's 30th birthday! He actually had the day off for his birthday (in a string of post-call days after being on OB night shift), so we went shopping for some woodcarving tools, ate one last time at our favorite stromboli place, Elizabeth's (Brian once told my it might be his favorite food ever), test drove the little red wagon, then came home for cake, candles and singing.  (We can all tell which of these was Nathan's favorite!)

Then, because Brian's such a great guy, we decided that he should take all of July off of work in honor of these great accomplishments (or some reason like that).
